After I lost my last German Wirehaired Pointer, I found out about the Spinone Italiano. It seemed to me that the mellow, gentle temperament of this breed would fit in well with high energy and feisty Parson Russell Terriers - and I was right.

I had grown up with English Springer Spaniels (which I showed successfully as a Junior Handler) and GWPs that our family hunted in Texas, so the Sporting Breeds were in my blood, but I had never seen one so sweet, funny and mellow! The Spinone temperament is so delightful.

There are always downsides, of course, and with this breed it is the beard!  You will always find a towel beside the water bowl here!  Their coats do shed, but it is not excessive.  Nonetheless, I wouldn't recommend a Spinone to anyone who is incredibly house-proud.

Rhoda joined us on Valentine's Day 2008 and I enjoyed watching her at shows - she gained her champion title in 2009.  The Spinone was becoming a passion for me and I was drawn to a number of the dogs from Britain, Holland in addition to the breed's country of origin.

I decided that the next Spinone should come over from Europe.  As a horse-importer, it seemed logical to look globally and with the help of Carolyn Fry, I imported Elena from the Italix kennel in England in 2009.  After visiting shows in both England and Holland, Milena arrived here in 2010. Since then Couchfields Matteo Del Mucrone and Couchfields Giulia at Carpe Diem have joined my crew. Both are co -owned with Michelle Brustein and Dave Brooks. Browse the individual pages for each of the dogs to learn more about them and watch our News page for their show successes and our occasional breeding plans.
